The Galleries at CSU present the 51st Annual Student Art Show & Merit Scholar Exhibition

Every spring, Cleveland State University’s Department of Art and Design showcases student artwork across disciplines with its juried Student Art Show and Merit Scholar Exhibition. Juried student art shows are important events in the life of academic art galleries as they provide opportunities for students to get real-world experience and a firsthand look into the professional world of gallery exhibitions. For many, this is the first time their work is critiqued by outside judges. The judges are not only tasked with choosing what will be in the show, but also with awarding over $1700 in cash prizes.

This year’s exhibition will include works in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, video-animation and sculpture, many of which are available for purchase. Thanks to our generous donors, judges have historically-large cash prizes to award across all the categories.

The Merit Scholar Exhibition in the North Gallery features work by recipients of the CSU Art Department Merit Scholarships. This year’s scholars are Darci Gummins-Paulett, Erin McHugh, Elise Provident, Jurnee Weeams, and Molly Zickes. By presenting their work in this exhibition, these talented students are fulfilling a scholarship requirement and gaining experience with gallery installations.
