Captured Fresh, at Deep Dive Art Projects

Cloche, Theadis Reagins, 2022

When Deep Dive Art Projects began in 2020, there was no plan for a gallery space. With the print workshop on the first floor, the Deep End’s upstairs provided an office, kitchen, and an intimate sitting room with blank walls. Thus, the Viewing Room was created for small bi-monthly exhibitions of print-based art and works on paper that show mastery, promise, and innovation. DDAP does not represent artists, only prints published by Deep Dive Editions. Here, contemporary works by a wide variety of artists are shown, including examples of traditional printmaking.

Untitled monoprint by Robert Pelegrin

Now on view are unique prints by Cleveland native Robert Pelegrin (1949-2007). Pelegrin spent most of his adult life in the Southwest. His monotypes of the desert landscape are based on memory and experience, expressing an incredible veracity and sensitivity to the process. In April, new drawings and prints by emerging artist Theadis Reagins will fill the Viewing Room. A student at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Reagins learned intaglio basics at the Deep End this summer and was bitten by the printmaking bug. As I suspected when first seeing his drawings, he has a nuanced and intuitive etcher’s touch. I am smitten. Is it overzealous to show the work of a novice at a professional printshop? As a lifelong printmaking advocate, sometimes you must take the leap and believe in the true magic of ink.
