Cleveland Print Room at 10

January 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of Cleveland Print Room. After growing tenaciously over the past decade from a small nonprofit startup, the Print Room remains an artist-led project still today. Centering on photography, we are committed to supporting the practice and development of artists of all ages. Through experimentation, gallery exhibitions, residencies, educational opportunities, and affordable access to a community darkroom and studio workspace, we elevate both the image and the artist.

Cleveland Print Room operates with core values that include providing vital support for artists, filling critical gaps in public education, sharing cross-cultural perspectives, and using photography to build community.

Opening Saturday, December 10, Cleveland Print Room presents free body, an exhibition of work by Aja Joi Grant. This show features photographic and printmaking works that are portrait based, exploring different poses, expressive body language and engaging compositions. Ease 3 – Body, featuring two writers—Kisha Nicole Foster and Haddy Gassama—responding to photographic work, was released in August of 2022 and explored topics of body image and comfort, honoring our bodies as our first home. Free body is a continuation of this theme, highlighting grace, different elements in the body, and reflection. Says Grant, “I continue to photograph my immediate community, this time looking a bit deeper to uncover their hidden language.”
