Edward E. Parker Museum of Art: Winter, 2021

Man in Umber, by Theadis Reagins

The past two years have been challenging. We have been forced to accept, and adapt to the new normal. It hasn’t been easy, but we remain optimistic as we prepare to bring this year to a close. We are thankful for the health of our team and pleased to continue providing quality, family-friendly programming for our students and patrons.

We’re happy to announce that the EEPMOA holiday gift giveaway for children is returning this year. Gifts will be distributed at a Christmas party on December 18. Along with the gifts, the event will feature holiday music and decorations, finger food, treats and refreshments. It’s rumored that Santa might make an appearance.

Come and bring the New Year in with us! On New Year’s Eve, the EEPMOA Board of Directors will be hosting a festive party to bring in the new year. The price of admission will include food, drinks, party favors, and entertainment. Space will be limited, so call for pricing information, and to reserve seats in advance. Hope to see you there.

Ed Parker has a number of artists lined up to show their work when the Shinn House/Mount Zion gallery exhibits resume, but he is still accepting portfolios to fill his roster. Interested artists should submit sample work. These shows typically hang for six weeks including the opening and closing receptions.

Whether you know Ed Parker personally or not, you should check out the WVIZ/PBS ideastream public media video and accompanying interview by journalist Dennis Knowles. In the five-minute video, Ed shares how he was introduced to art, details the journey to founding his museum, and asserts his commitment to creating ‘til tomorrow’s end.

Are you looking to learn a new craft? If so, join us from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for art class. As usual, these classes are free for seniors. We work in all varieties of media, but the majority of students are currently sculpting. Beginners are welcome—we would love to have you join us.

The museum is open Monday through Friday, from 10:00am to 3:00pm; however, visits may be scheduled outside of normal business hours by appointment. We welcome all visitors. Remember to “Think Art for social development!”
