Mark Making and the Elusive Spirit

 One year ago (May 20, 2016) Still Point Gallery had the honor of hosting Cherie Lesnick’s first solo show in Cleveland, (Mind, Myth & Music), a stunningly beautiful and psychologically compelling exhibit that resonated with a wide audience and excellent sales. At the urging of customers and the gallery alike, Cherie has agreed to hold another exhibit this year with an opening reception Friday, May 12th, (6:00 – 8:00 p.m), entitled Mark Making and the Elusive Spirit. Her new show echoes themes from her first, again emphasizing the power of marks to animate, endow meaning and at times to achieve transcendence. Within these works of watercolor and mixed media, some of them relatively small (e.g. 8″ x 8″), her paintings exhibit a remarkable capacity and range, from satire to whimsy, as she engages us in the abiding and earnest questions of mind and body, spirit and matter.
