Edward E. Parker Museum of Art, Thinking Art for Social Development

Angela Reagins, Bobbi Reagins, Edward Parker. Bobbi was picking up Ed’s artwork for an exhibit—the 4th annual Black Arts Showcase.

“Think Art for social development” is the EEPMOA motto because exposure to the arts has a wealth of social, educational, and emotional benefits. This motto shapes the programs we offer—like the intergenerational art program. The student exhibit was amazing. Special thanks to Cuyahoga Arts and Culture for their support. It’s extremely fulfilling to witness the growth of our returning students. We’re looking forward to next year already.

Upcoming Exhibits

Pieces from Ed Parker’s clown series were recently exhibited in Blaack Kaleidoscope: Looking Beyond. This group show was held in conjunction with the 4th annual Blaack Arts Showcase at Worthington Yards. Ed Parker will also be exhibiting alongside Georgio Sabino III, Gina Washington, Robin Robinson, Jacques P. Jackson, and Anna Arnold in a group show held at Wade Park Community Engagement Center, 11310 Wade Park Avenue, through September 30. Select pieces from the special collection of Jan Ridgeway will be showcased as well.

Our next group exhibit is tentatively scheduled to open Friday, October 10. It will feature the work of three or four local artists and remain on display for three to four weeks. Exhibits and themes will be announced on social media, with artist bios, sample work, and artist statements. For information, call 216.682.8214 or email snickerfritz1941@yahoo.com.

The Gift of Art

This pop-up art show is organized by local artist Walter Allen Rogers. Artwork is displayed in our Creative Arts Complex, and is available for purchase from 2-7 pm. Refreshments are provided by African American Artists of Cleveland. Please join us for conversation, networking, and the opportunity to pick up a print or a one-of-a-kind piece. If you’re an artist who’s interested in participating, contact us. Upcoming dates: September 27, October 25, and November 29.

Community Outreach

Little things can make a huge difference. We have been collecting non-perishable food items and will be distributing them to families in need before the Thanksgiving holiday. We have also started purchasing hygiene products, socks, scarves and gloves to distribute to the homeless prior to the winter season. Anyone interested in donating to either cause can drop items off at the museum’s Creative Arts Complex.

Art Classes

This class meets in the lower-level studio from 6-8 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Students have been working on clay busts as they wait for the kiln to be fired. All skill levels and artistic mediums are welcome in our friendly, inclusive atmosphere, and the class is free for seniors.

Collaborate

Edward Parker’s museum supports projects that bring people together and have a positive impact within the community. We provide helpful resources and affordable, quality arts programming. Joining forces with like-minded partners increases the impact that can be made within the community. Share your ideas—we’d love to collaborate on a project.
