Explore the many ways you can set stones this summer with these upcoming visiting artist workshops.  California visiting artist Richard Salley returns to present variety of workshops the weekend of May 31 – June 2, including stacking stone rings, castellated bezels, and a fun “Flip Top Bracelet”.

Seattle goldsmith and Kirk Lang returns to the studio for two workshops July 26-28.  “In the Round: Introduction to Ring Fabrication & Setting of Round Faceted Gemstones”, a fast paced one day class where you will make a simple style ring embedded with sparkling gemstones.  In “Cold Connections: Beyond Rivets”, you can learn a faster, cleaner but equally durable way of joining two pieces of metal together without using a torch!  In two days, you will learn how to create flat, domed, tube, hinge and seamless flush rivets. Learn about how to use micro tap and dies to create your own custom nuts and bolts and lastly, how to utilize small tabs to fold over and attach one piece of metal to another.

New Hampshire artist Jeff Georgates joins us in the studio Labor Day weekend August 30 – September 2 for two new workshops. “Creating Stone Settings: Baskets and Bezel Blocks” combines two most requested settings projects, how to make your own basket settings and how to use bezel blocks. You will not only learn how to fabricate stone settings, but will also how learn how to set round and oval faceted stones with the option to make a finished pendant or ring with the settings that are created.   Then finish off the weekend learning about the basics of pulse arc welding, and how to integrate this technology into traditional jewelry-making techniques.  “ WELD IT!  Pulse Arc Welding for Jewelers & Metalsmiths” will open your eyes to how this technology can be integrated with traditional jewelry making techniques, plus a pile of tips and tricks to help you reimagine how your work is created.  Sunstone Engineering is also supplying a number of Orion precision pulse arc welders for participants to utilize and explore during the workshop.
