Big Things Spring Forth at Flux Metal Arts

Flux-Metal-Arts-Synclasted Spiral-Longhi&Eid

Spring, the season represents fresh beginnings and growth. The same holds true at Flux Metal Arts.

Grow with us!  We have become known as an east-side destination to find unique gifts of studio jewelry and metalwork handcrafted by over 20 local artists.  Whether newly emerging or established, we are seeking YOU to add your distinctive voice to our Artisan Gallery.

Looking to nurture and grow your skills in a fun and creative way?  We are excited to announce many new additions to the studio!  New equipment for lost wax casting has arrived, and classes have been added to our spring schedule.  Learn the basics and beyond in this classic technique while creating a lasting and memorable piece. Enhance your learning experience in the classroom with a new bench video camera and TV displays demonstrations and artist lectures.  See clear and up-close with a birds-eye view while learning the finer points of jewelry & metalworking.

As our studio blossoms, our visiting artist class schedule blooms with many nationally recognized artists.  Beginning March 17 – 19, we welcome Georgia artist Victoria Lansford for her master workshop “Russian Filigree.”  Learn the ancient secrets of open back filigree, and be inspired by Victoria’s contemporary sculptural jewelry using the technique.

April has a special focus on metal forming.  Join Maryland artist Michael Brehl for “All Things Hammered- Metal Raising.”  Using technology from the time of Paul Revere, learn to hammer sheets of copper into bowls, cups, and other vessels. Then join Boston artist and author Cynthia Eid for a master workshop “Creative Metal Forming- Part I: Synclastic & Anticlastic Hammering” April 21 – 23.  Learn how to transform a flat sheet of metal into elegant fluidity, seamlessly combining concave and convex curves, while making it strong and flexible.

Beach combers can join North Carolina artist Molly Sharp for “Pebble Jewelry” May 5 – 6. Using traditional metalsmithing techniques, learn how you can transform you beach treasures into a cherished piece of jewelry. Complete the weekend with Molly on May 7 in “Hollow Form Construction- Silver Pendant.”  Learn to construct a hollow form bead from sterling silver that is pleasing to hold as it is to behold by using fabrication techniques that free us from flat surfaces.

Whether you create, learn, or shop … let your spring time blossom with the new energy at Flux Metal Arts.
