The Shaker Historical Society’s Lissauer Art Gallery at 16740 South Park Boulevard in Shaker Heights (Shaker-Lee Road RTA Green Line stop) features art from Northeast Ohio artists. This intimate gallery is designed to encourage new and emerging artists, promote an appreciation of art and support local artists. We are proud to present the work of Herb Ascherman, Jr. and Jamie Morse this summer. Ascherman is an internationally respected fine art photographer know for his platinum printing process and superb portraits. Jamie Morse teaches art and photography at Hathaway Brown. He has painted professionally for over 30 years.
Herb Ascherman: The Halle House
Ascherman will be exhibiting his photographs of the extraordinary Halle House in Shaker Heights, built in 1927 for Mr. Salmon P. C. Halle, co-founder of the former Cleveland department store. Corbusier, Lenski and Foster designed the mansion in the French Neoclassical style. On August 23, 1976, this exemplary residence was designated a Shaker Heights landmark. From November 2013 to March 2015, Ascherman captured the mansion and its grounds in all sorts of weather conditions.
Ascherman has been working for over 35 years and examples of his photography are found in international collections around the world. This Shaker Heights native son delivers a unique quality in his platinum prints that evokes the grandeur of this special private residence.
Jamie Morse: Landscapes
Morse works in both en plein air and in the studio, focusing on landscapes. His impressionistic technique evokes the world of James McNeil Whistler. He writes, “I paint landscapes on location, still life paintings from observation, and works from memory and imagination. In my paintings, I try to capture the beauty and essence of each subject.”
Since 1983, Morse has taught at Hathaway Brown School, and he is currently the Visual Arts Department Chair. He earned his B.F.A., at the Philadelphia College of Art and has regularly returned to New England where he was raised. He depicts local subjects as well as those from Cape Cod. Morse is an award winning painter who exhibits locally and nationally.
We are delighted to bring these two exceptional local artists to the Lissauer Gallery this summer. For more information, check shakerhistory.org or call 216.921.1201.
