Latitudes and Longitudes

September 5 – October 5

A longtime Cleveland mixed media artist, Dott von Schneider received her CEAP from the Ecole des Beaux-arts de Rouen in 1996. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in publications such as Kölnisch Rundshau, The Plain Dealer, Cleveland Magazine, Jane Magazine, Cleveland Scene, and Northern Ohio Live. She also functions as Cultural Maraca and owner of Miller Schneider Gallery. She writes, “Of late my work has been about manipulating non-traditional materials as commentary on the physical place I am at any given time. Latitudes and Longitudes is based on my two week transcontinental drive to study the living erosion of the United States.”

Tremont Pretentious Artists’ Group

October 11 – December 7

In the early 1990s, as the Tremont neighborhood was developing into a hotbed for local artists, Tim Herron established his Manly Pad studio on the south end of Professor Avenue and regularly showed his portrait work at Andy Timithy and Linda Baldezzi’s Literary Café. Herron customarily left a sketch pad at the end of the bar, to be reviewed and at times added to by others; gradually this practice evolved into the Friday night drawing club that still meets monthly in the back room of The Lit.

Juan Quirarte describes the Pretentious Artists’ Group as “a guaranteed relaxed, yet stimulating experience… a ‘no pressure’ oasis to practice your skills and get inspired by other artists.” Regarding the group’s leader, Quirarte continues: “Tim is the center from which everything at the Literary flows. His good-natured demeanor, yet precise time-keeping, keeps everything humming along. There would be no P.T.A. without him.”
