Words into Action: Akron Black Artist Guild champions civic responsibility through the power of art.

Let’s transform our words into action and embody the change we want to see, while also challenging the narratives that surround us. The call for action has never been stronger, and there’s no better way to ignite this transformation than by returning to the basics.

We believe in the vital role that art and literacy can play in this journey, which is why we’ve joined forces with Civic University in Seattle, Civic Saturday Akron, the local theater troupe Genesis Theatre, and Emmanuel Christian Academy to present Words into Action. This inspiring community event aims to harness the power of literacy and art to foster good civic character within Akron’s diverse neighborhoods.

Words into Action offers a unique educational experience for youth and families, providing opportunities to engage with artists and community organizations. By blending literary education with artistic expression, this event seeks to ignite creativity and deepen our understanding of good civic character and its tremendous impact on our community. It will highlight the positive qualities in individuals and the collective achievements we can realize together, inspiring us all to be part of something bigger.

This event is not just a gathering: it serves as a powerful catalyst, urging our community to take charge of its environment.

We invite everyone to embark on their own projects that put words into action—whether it’s writing letters of encouragement to neighbors, sprucing up sidewalks, planting flower beds, or organizing clothing drives. Together, we can create meaningful change in our neighborhoods, empowering each person to contribute to the greater good. So, what are you waiting for?

Join us from noon to 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 20, in the lower level of Emmanuel Christian Academy, 350 South Portage Path, Akron, Ohio. Attendance is free, but registration is required at abaguild.org.
