Summit Artspace begins a transformative construction project to expand creative access in August, updating a host of areas throughout the building. Gallery spaces, the third floor event space, storefront, and even stairwells will be refurbished.

The spaces will be better equipped and more accessible to serve the organization’s 30 resident artists, 400 exhibiting artists, and 9,000 annual visitors. Due to this project, the Summer Exhibitions have moved entirely online and are accessible through the virtual exhibitions page on the SummitArtspace website (SummitArtspace.org). The building will be temporarily closed to the public until the project is completed, but our team will still be serving artists!

The next Akron ArtWalk, focusing on themes of recovery, will be held outside of the building and will take place from 5 to 9 pm on Thursday, September 11.

The organization will also host its second Artist Open House: Mix & Meet this fall, at a date to be determined. Additional details will be announced on our website and social media pages. This event invites local artists in all disciplines to meet with fellow artists, business professionals, and organizations towards advancing their practice with information tables, private mentorship opportunities, and guided group sessions.

Summit Artspace anticipates hosting the Artists Sunday Weekend Friday – Sunday, November 28 – 30. All updates for the event will be posted on the social media pages and website. This event will give people a chance to support local artists and promote the value of the arts this holiday season. Visitors can meet resident and visiting artist vendors from the fantastic event partner, Akron Bazaar!

Upcoming exhibitions include the 23rd annual Kaleidoscope juried exhibition, Never Just a Quilt group exhibition, It Is What It Is by Linda McConaughty, Confessions of a Comic Book Artist by Amanda Branham, and the Women’s Art League Member Exhibition. The official opening and closing dates for these exhibitions will be announced soon on our website and social media pages.
