Fall Happenings at Zygote Press

The studio doesn’t begin or end with a season. It keeps its own time.

This fall, Zygote welcomes artists of every experience level into the studio. Claudio Orso leads a woodcut workshop exploring the fundamentals of relief carving and printing. RA Washington comes onboard to debut an immersive poetry and letterpress intensive—open to new writers, or printmakers who would like to explore poetic concepts in dialogue with letterpress. The two-day intensive will culminate in students creating their own broadsides.

Additional workshops will be announced as the season takes shape. Join our newsletter for updates, registration details, and the full fall workshop schedule as it unfolds.

As part of Beloved: Ohio Celebrates Toni Morrison—the statewide initiative organized by Ohio Humanities and Literary Cleveland—Zygote presents a group exhibition engaging the enduring concerns woven throughout Morrison’s work: History. Memory. Race. Exclusion. Trauma. Violence. Flight. Motherhood. Home. Lineage. Beauty. Love. Rather than illustrating her novels, the exhibition asks how printmaking—its layers, reversals, transfers, and impressions—can deepen the meanings found in her writing. The exhibition is on view September 10 through October 30.

At 6 pm on Thursday, November 19, our Fall Member Mixer signals our annual holiday show,Off The Wall, filling the gallery with original prints, artist’s books, greeting cards, and handmade works by Zygote artists, members, interns, and friends. Every piece offers a chance to live with original art while sustaining the community that made it.

Studios are built one impression at a time. Communities are built the same way.

Come make something. Come discover something. Come leave your mark.
