Exploring Patterns at Praxis Fiber Workshop

Involved in the contemporary spheres of politics, culture, and the increasingly introspective social media apparatus is the need for a new kitsch. Josie Krampitz and Nate Rouse seek to explore playfully and seriously. Centered in their work, on view at Praxis Fiber Workshop from October 3 until December 15, is wallpaper, as an object that has existed historically, and as it may continue to exist into the future. What has wallpaper been? What can it become? These are the foremost questions of the contemporary age (we promise!). They’re also quite silly questions to ask, perhaps meaningless. Suffice it to say, definitive answers are not to be given.
Nate Rouse is a Cleveland-based interdisciplinary artist. His work explores linguistics and psychology through a playful use of photography, appropriation, photomontage, video, and new media.
Josie Krampitz is a printmaker whose work merges hand-drawn illustrations, digital editing, and traditional printmaking techniques. Their work is inspired by animation and other visual storytelling methods. Through a blend of character-driven design and printmaking, their work examines new ways to weave colorful visual narratives into visual art.
Please join us at the opening reception from 6 to 8 pm on October 3 during Walk All Over Waterloo.
