Come view the works created by eight artists for the 2022 SculptureX Symposium, hosted by The Sculpture Center!

Free, parking on site.

Reclaimed: process, story, material and idea brings together a group of young voices in sculpture under the idea of degrowth, an economic theory that critiques “the global capitalist system which pursues growth at all costs, causing human exploitation and environment destruction.” The eight selected artists use objects with histories both personal and cultural, not only participating in these histories, but recreating, engaging and activating them. Memories and experiences are reclaimed through objects, writings, fiber, and performance. Familiar processes like collecting, assemblage, and traditional ceramic vessel building are employed to create new touchstones where each of these histories can be seen, accessed, and valued.

This PopUp exhibition marks The Sculpture Center’s commitment to serving artists no matter their career stage. The exhibition is organized by new voices in sculpture working through the SculptureX network to expand the breadth of artists we serve. The artists are graduates of Alfred University, Cleveland Institute of Art, Edinboro University, Ohio State, and West Virginia University.

The opening of the SculptureX Popup exhibition at the Sculpture Center will be a celebration of the participating artists and their work. The artists will be present to speak about their work. The event will also include performances by exhibiting artists Arcadia Mori and David Ross.
