Dual Exhibition: Paula Damm and Eileen Woods, at VAC

This spring, Valley Art Center proudly presents Dual Exhibition: Paula Damm and Eileen Woods, a captivating showcase featuring two acclaimed artists whose work explores storytelling, personal history, and the intersections of ancient art forms with modern life. Opening March 28, this exhibition unites Paula and Eileen—both former winners of the Annual Juried Art Exhibition—for a powerful dialogue of art that highlights the trials and triumphs of the human experience.
Paula Damm’s contributions are deeply personal, with autobiographical narratives intricately woven into fiber and paper. Her creations explore memory, identity, and human connection through tactile and timeless mediums. With each piece, Paula invites viewers into a space of introspection, exploring themes of resilience and the universal search for meaning.
Eileen Woods offers a compelling collection of breathtaking portrait embroideries and evocative wood-burned works. Her meticulously crafted art combines vulnerability and boldness, delving into her own life’s narrative with profound honesty. Through her mastery of traditional techniques, Eileen captures the complexities of personal experience, creating works that are both intimate and resonant.
Enhancing the exhibition experience, visitors can engage with the artists’ stories in a unique and interactive way. QR codes placed throughout the gallery will allow attendees to hear Paula and Eileen share the inspirations and emotional journeys behind their works in their own voices. This feature offers a deeper connection to the pieces and insight into the creative processes of these remarkable artists.

Together, Paula and Eileen’s works celebrate the power of storytelling, bridging the tactile richness of traditional art forms with contemporary narratives. “Their ability to intertwine ancient techniques with modern themes creates work that is as visually compelling as it is emotionally resonant,” says curator Julie Polsinelli.

The exhibition also includes an Artist Talk on April 7, with doors opening at 6 pm and the discussion beginning at 6:30 pm. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to hear directly from Paula and Eileen about their creative journeys and the themes that drive their work.
“This exhibition highlights two extraordinary artists whose works are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the enduring power of art to connect us,” Polsinelli adds.
