ARTFUL Expands into Its New Home

ARTFUL is well into the second year at its new, fabulous location. It has been a whirlwind year of cleaning, building, and renovating, after purchasing the former St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in May of 2025. We were able to divide the space into 33 studios, including a fully outfitted ceramics studio. Forty artists now have dedicated, safe and inclusive art space in Cleveland Heights, expanding our original number by seven. The former Sanctuary has been transformed into the “Flex Space” and can be adapted for endless uses with a stage, projection screens and movable walls for art exhibits.
This fall we will launch our open flex space hours and a limited number of memberships will be available as we test the program. The Flex Space program will allow for two four-hour time slots per week when members can come and work in our large inspiring center space. One slot will be on a weekday from late afternoon to evening, and the other on a weekend from late morning to afternoon. There is a large community table in the center, as well as tables that can be used for more focused work. Lockers will be available for rental. If you are interested in being kept in the loop on this program or any others, email contact@artfulcleveland.org.
We have already rebooted our smaller events (like quarterly Potluck Critiques) and hosted dozens of local groups and workshops, and we’ll be launching a capital campaign in the coming year to raise the funds to outfit our facility with sprinklers. Bringing our facility up to fire code will allow us to program at our full capacity, and bring back popular events like ART for the Masses. On November 14, we will hold our first major fundraiser in conjunction with our partners at Lake Erie Ink. This event, Holidays in the Heights, will be held at the Cultural Arts Center at the Disciples Christian Church in Cleveland Heights and will feature theater, poetry, vocal performances, food and an auction! Local playwrights Eric Coble, Christopher Johnston, Rachel Zake, and Dr. Mary E. Weems are writing original one-act holiday plays that will be performed by local actors. Youth poets will perform their own work, and art will be abundant. Tickets will be available in the fall at artfulcleveland.org.
We are once again excited about our future, now that we have settled into our permanent home. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been supportive through our trials and tribulations. We can’t wait to celebrate with you in our new home.
