What the Flux, we are five!
How can it be? We have reached a special milestone at Flux Metal Arts, and it’s time to celebrate five years of creative community in the jewelry & metalworking arts.
Instructors and students from around the region, across the country and Canada have joined us in the studio. We couldn’t be more honored to become a destination for quality instruction in the jewelry & metalworking arts. We invite you to enjoy a variety of fall classes including our popular Introduction to Jewelry & Metalsmithing, broom casting, and metal etching classes. We also welcome three traveling artists from coast to coast, to complete our visiting artist program for 2017.
New Jersey enamellist Amy Roper Lyons joins us in the studio September 15-17 to teach her master class “Plique-a-Jour: Enameling Without a Net”. Plique-a-jour is an enameling technique in which open wirework without a back is filled with transparent enamel. When fired, the physics of surface tension holds the molten glass in place, resulting in a stained-glass effect. This class will break it down into a clear step-by-step method, revealing tips and tricks that demystify this beautiful art.
October 13 – 15, California artist Alison Antelman presents her three day master workshop “Custom Clasps”. Create clasps that are safe, secure and truly one-of-a-kind focal points for any jewelry design. Learn and make both the key clasp and box clasp, while exploring a variety of solutions to add your custom-made clasp to the rest of your piece.
Lastly, we welcome the return of Vermont artist Anne Havel for “IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT: EXPLORE/EXPAND/EXCEL with torch-fired Enameling” November 10-12. Using a torch, we will cover various methods of line creation and imagery within your enamel piece. Successive layers of liquids & sgraffito, transparents, opaques, graphite, firescale, acid etching, underglazes, and more will be explored. No matter your skill level, there will be the opportunity to immerse oneself in new ideas and principles in this fun workshop.
November 3rd, join us for our anniversary with two special events. Our Fifth Annual Student and Instructor Exhibition opens Friday, November 3, and runs all month long. Our community of students and instructors join together to show off their latest jewelry and metalworking creations. The festive community reception will include door prizes, and the presentation of a people’s choice award. Many works will be available, and it’s a great way to get a jump on your holiday shopping, and support local artists from emerging to established.
The anniversary celebration continues on Saturday, November 4 with our Open House. Free mini workshops and demos will be scheduled throughout the day for all to enjoy.
Join us this fall for the celebration! Visit fluxmetalarts.com for a complete list of current classes and events.
