On View at Harris Stanton Gallery, Akron and Cleveland

Harris-Stanton-Gallery-Linda Fischer 001

Opening on September 2, the Cleveland gallery will feature new works by local artists Mindy Tousley and Lisa Kenion. This exciting show will display a mix of both women’s artistry in varying mediums. With a degree in design and concentration in ceramics, Mindy works in different mediums reflective of her design background and often inspired by forms found in nature. Similarly, Lisa Kenion, a MFA graduate from Kent State, draws inspiration from the natural world. Her cast bronze sculptures show her interest of ancient cultures and their subject matters of nature and open attitudes towards the divine feminine.

In mid-September, the Akron location will host its Twenty-Third Annual Art-tini Auction, a silent auction benefiting a local arts non-profit organization. We are excited to announce that this year will benefit Summit Artspace, a community art center that brings together the public, local artists, art education, and arts organizations of the Greater Akron area in one shared space. The auction showcases over 80 pieces in all media, all starting at a discounted price and will include art by international and regional artists represented by Harris·Stanton Gallery. Bidding will open on September 16 and close with a vodka themed party on September 23 from 5:30-8pm.

Beginning in November, the Akron location will display an exhibition featuring artists Abbey Blake and Linda Fischer working in the encaustic medium. Also known as hot wax painting, the encaustic process involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. Abbey’s work shows influence of her degree in printmaking with an emphasis in biomedical art. Her interest in cellular structures is apparent in the forms she uses in her abstract work. Linda also works in an abstract style, however, her works focus on larger scale subject matters gravitating towards cityscapes, mountain sides, and the view from a plane of the landscape below.

For the third year, the Cleveland gallery will present its Annual International Exhibition of extraordinary global artists opening in mid-November. The exhibition showcases exciting new artists and works from around the world that are unavailable in any other Northeast Ohio gallery. This year we will feature artist, Miguel Olivares of Barcelona, Spain. Inspired by the mixing of cultures, the Spanish artist collages recycled materials and paint to create his crowded street and café scenes. Olivares is interested in portraying the authenticity of people and places as opposed to tourist stereotypes.
