Energy flowing through Flux Metal Arts

Flux-Metal-Arts-2015 Student & Instructor Exhibition, Flux Metal Arts

Flux (fluks) n. 1 :  a flowing or flow.  2a substance used for helping to melt, fuse or join metals.

We often get asked the question “Why the name Flux Metal Arts?”  “Flux” is a substance that we use in jewelry and metalworking to allow solder to flow on metal when heated with a torch.  This fall as we celebrate our fourth year, the word FLUX means so much more:  the flow of creativity, exploration of new ideas, and an energizing catalyst of artistic community in jewelry and metalworking.

Walk in the door, and be greeted by our gallery of contemporary jewelry.  Created by a diverse group of studio artists, each display offers the unique jewelry designs of students and established artists from across the region.

Are you thinking about selling your work, or are ready to take the next step in creating a profitable production line?  Don’t miss our special workshop “Developing a Production Line” with Catherine Butler October 1-2.  A jeweler and artist with over 35 years of experience, Catherine will guide you through the three essential phases of developing a production line: Production Line Basics, the Design Process, and Prototyping a Jewelry Line.  Learn to work smart, hone your ideas, and create prototypes ready for marketing.

A variety of fall classes include our popular Introduction to Jewelry & Metalsmithing, broom casting, and etching classes.  We also welcome the return of New Jersey artist Jill Hurant September 24-25 for her workshop “Fine Silver Granulation.”  Granulation is the ancient technique of fusing small spheres of silver or gold onto a piece of jewelry to form a decorative element.  Take a step back in time and learn this fascinating process, creating a classical inspired piece of your very own.

Flux celebrates its Fourth Anniversary with two events. Our Fourth Annual Student and Instructor Exhibition opens Friday, November 4. The festive community reception will include door prizes, and the presentation of a people’s choice award. Many works will be available, and it’s a great way to get a jump on your holiday shopping, and support local artists from emerging to established.

The anniversary continues on Saturday, November 5 with our Open House. Free mini workshops and demos will be scheduled throughout the day for all to enjoy.

Embrace your creative flow.  Visit fluxmetalarts.com for a complete list of current classes and events.
