Artists on the Edge, at HEDGE

HEDGE Gallery presents a group exhibition this winter titled On the Edge, featuring represented painter David King, sculptor Kenn Hetzel, and photographer Daniel Levin.

David King is a prolific painter and longtime educator in Cleveland. His recent oil paintings, constructions, and cut outs focus on the unsettling emotions people experience with change.

King states, “I portray these feelings by using distinct edges to create unfamiliar worlds for the individuals I paint. I place figures on new, unearthly planes, construct elaborate fractured environments, and remove and release others from their environment altogether.”

He uses images of unrelated strangers that seem both foreign and familiar in order to reimagine narratives, embracing mystery, fantasy, and humor.

Kenn Hetzel, a Kent State University graduate and educator known for his organic forms in stone, wood and found objects, is currently focused on climate change and the human condition. Emotional response and political commentary guide his work, and he uses a variety of materials to focus on memory and environment.

Daniel Levin, a Cleveland-based artist, author, and professor, has created documentaries in the United States and abroad on a variety of social issues. He will be exhibiting recent photographs that highlight rare occasions and unplanned experiences.

Levin states, “I am never interested in history within a vacuum. My interests invariably relate to how our histories can help us understand our present.”

This three-person exhibition of multi-faceted work offers a way to connect, as it invites viewers to weave stories together in order to find shared threads that unite us.
