BAYarts: 75 years and counting!

BAYarts Fuller House, by Mary Deutschman

Time flies when you’re having fun! It’s hard to believe BAYarts (formerly Baycrafters) was founded in 1948, and at least two of the campus buildings are over 130 years old. The BAYarts of today is the result of a renaissance in 2005 that saved an organization mired in debt and disrepair. Since then, guided by an unwavering mission to provide a welcoming, exciting cultural experience for all ages and interests, and backed by the support and encouragement of the community, BAYarts has become a destination for all of Northeast Ohio, engaging over 16,000 students and 5000 event attendees each year, while providing income for hundreds of artists and faculty, and most importantly providing a quality of living experience that lasts a lifetime.

BAYarts directors continue to train, network, and engage with other communities to keep it fresh and forward thinking. With the support of a roster of skilled volunteers, a hands-on board and a new auxiliary board of young professionals, the passion and desire to continue to raise the bar higher and higher has not waivered.

In 2023, BAYarts will complete the renovation of the former playhouse to include a flexible space auditorium and indoor and outdoor classrooms for year-round engagement—more education, exhibitions and events. A year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary will culminate in a very special benefit—Moondance 75. Then on to the next 75!
