SIE 79, Latinx Club Shows Highlight Cleveland Institute of Art’s Spring Exhibitions

The talent and creativity of Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) students will be on full display during two spring exhibitions: the 2025 Student Independent Exhibition (SIE)and Every Day Echoes: Small Moments, Big Connections, Lasting Traditions.
This year marks the 79th Student Independent Exhibition, an annual show organized and mounted entirely by CIA students. Those same students also choose jurors, and for this year’s exhibition, they selected multidisciplinary visual artist Jewel Ham, painter Caroline Absher, and glass artist (and 2007 CIA alum) Nate Cotterman.
“These artists bring a level of enthusiasm to their work, and I hope they can leave some of that energy with us for this year’s show,” says SIE Committee Chair Theadis Reagins, a painting and printmaking junior.
Visitors will see work by artists discovering and exploring their creative voices through their studies at CIA—artists whom Reagins says people will remember “for years to come.”
“There is interest around seeing art being made here at CIA from the conversations I’ve had, and I think seeing great work from an artist early in their career is exciting for someone to witness and invest in,” he says, adding he and his fellow students are eager for Clevelanders to experience their work.
“As artists and classmates, we see the work being done amongst each other in the studio, so seeing that work shown to a larger audience in a gallery setting can be rewarding,” Reagins says. “Everyone is excited to see what gets chosen and to support the artists in the show.”
SIE is on view through April 6 in Reinberger Gallery.

Every Day Echoes: Small Moments, Big Connections, Lasting Traditions is CIA’s Latinx Club’s 2025 exhibition. It follows the club’s inaugural show, Beyond Borders, in 2024.
Painting junior Nicole Alvarez says Latinx Club members were excited to build on the success of last year’s show “to create more opportunities for Latino students to exhibit their work, communicate and network.”
“It’s important that we as a community help each other grow,” says Alvarez, explaining that Every Day Echoes will showcase artwork that celebrates students’ Latinidad: attributes shared by Latin American people and their descendants.
“I believe it is important to amplify Latino voices in artistic spaces,” Alvarez says. “The public will see the world through our lens and how our culture and heritage have influenced our perspective.”
Every Day Echoes is on view through March 28 in the Alan Lipson Gallery.
