Parrandón Navideño at Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center

’Tis the season of holiday cheer, art markets, cultural celebrations, and community. Out of all 365 days in the year, there’s one day in particular when we stop, come together, take a breath, and express the utmost gratitude for our students, families, artists, and friends: Parrandón Navideño, our annual holiday party on the second Saturday of December.
Parrandón Navideño offers our friends and families a free community meal, entertainment in the form of student performances, and the sharing of community resources. With the help of Santa and the Three Kings, every child receives one gift to take home for the holiday season.
Central to this celebration are our youth, including our Latin Social Dance groups—Grupo Coquí and Sabor Latino—and participants from our Latina Image Leadership Program.
Sabor Latino’s instructor, Bianca Chis, perfectly captures the heart and value of our students:
“We are the next generation. We are everything that we want to build in our community: the support, the leadership, the passion. We have so many kids here that have such different lifestyles, but when they come here, we’re all one. And that’s really what we want in this world.”
Our students work hard all year round, participating in spring and summer programs, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and continuing to engage with us throughout the fall. New students are always joining to share in the magic. At the end of the year, we celebrate them—because they’re the ones who bring our mission to life.
