The Incredible Brightness of Seeing

Networking usually involves connections among people but in this body of work the connections manifest themselves between places and things. Since our visual culture constantly bombards us with images, it is a distinct challenge to create combinations of things heretofore unrelated. In such reincarnations, new worlds of wonder may materialize as the element of surprise is ever present. Interconnectedness at times may be based on formal concerns while at other times similar themes or small details might unite the work. Hopefully these tapestries, woven of strange combinations and altered photographs, will provoke a new way of seeing and looking. 

Dan Tranberg

New Work

While traditional conventions of painting prioritize image and content, Dan Tranberg’s work inverts this dynamic by championing the materials used in the paintings’ composition. Through the incorporation of materials like yarn, glitter, and Roll-a-Tex, Tranberg’s work creates an overtly tactile experience that emphasizes materiality above all else. This manipulation of formal systems results in dynamic, gem-like paintings that are ideal for contemplation.

Amber Kempthorn & Sarah Kabot

Interested in books, ephemera, and overlooked artifacts, Amber Kempthorn and Sarah Kabot’s work will be shown together in a two-person exhibition at 1point618. Their process and materials are analogous, but they approach similar content differently. Using sculpture, drawing, and collage, the exhibition explores the complexities of memory, memorials, and preserving the forgotten evidence of human lives.
