Lauren Scacchi: Into The Calm, at Extraordinaire Photos

Lauren Scacchi, Calm #3.

Extraordinaire Photos is thrilled to present Into The Calm this summer at EP Studio–a solo exhibition of new work by Cleveland-based artist Lauren Scacchi.

A graduate of Cleveland Institute of Art, Scacchi’s practice is rooted in painting while extending across materials and processes that deepen her sensitivity to surface, form, and spatial relationships. Her work strikes a confident balance between intuition and control—each decision considered, yet never overworked.

The paintings in Into The Calm exist between abstraction and representation, built through layered, organic forms and a muted, atmospheric palette. Color is handled with precision—thin veils and soft transitions create a sense of depth that feels immersive without becoming heavy. Edges blur, shapes shift, and compositions unfold gradually, encouraging viewers to slow down and look more closely.

There is a quiet rigor to the work. Scacchi demonstrates a strong command of pacing, negative space, and material buildup, allowing subtle variations in texture and value to carry each piece. The result is work that feels both grounded and expansive—visually restrained, yet structurally assured.

While informed by the natural world, these paintings resist direct representation. Instead, they translate qualities like growth, rhythm, and interconnectedness into a visual language that remains fluid and open-ended. The experience becomes less about identifying what is seen and more about how it resonates.

For summer visitors, Into The Calm invites a slower way of looking, where the work opens up the longer you spend with it.

Into The Calm will be on view through September 18 at Extraordinaire Photos.
