Blooming Tides, Curated by Davon Brantley

This summer the Waterloo Arts Gallery and Cafe will feature the work of ten local artists in a group show, curated by Davon Brantley, titled Blooming Tides.
From the curator: “This exhibition features Black, AAPI and Latinx Artists and is intended to explore the interconnection, influence and/or impact of their cultures amongst each other through various media. This exhibition allows viewers to see the works from these three cultures inform, influence, and/or align in themes related to their experiences in life and their careers. Thus allowing for discourse on indirect and direct connections amongst marginalized groups, exposing shared worlds despite difference and distance.”
Originally slated as a week-long pop-up, the exhibition has now expanded to a full six-week exhibition featuring the work of ten local artists: Nicole Alvarez, Davon Brantley, Ashton Burton, Liana Gonzalez, Yasmeen Kwan, Nick Lee, Younghyeon Ryu-Hurst, Sebastian Sosa, Lauren Sylvia, and Jurnee Ta’Zion.

Curator Davon Brantley is a Cleveland-based artist, born and raised in the city. He graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2018 and has exhibited and curated shows at venues such as BAYarts, the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, CAN Triennial, the Morgan Conservatory, the Indianapolis Arts Center, Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, the Museum of Creative Human Art, and many more. A true advocate for our region’s arts ecosystem, Brantley is a connector of people and ideas, and Waterloo Arts is thrilled to present his latest project this summer.
Blooming Tides opens with a reception from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, June 5, and remains on view through Saturday, July 18.
