ARTFUL Settles into its new home

The dramatic architecture of the former St. Alban’s Church on Euclid Heights Boulevard in Cleveland Heights is the new home of ARTFUL.

Six months into ARTFUL’s takeover of the former St. Alban’s Church in Cleveland Heights, we are tired, but hopeful. After filling Three 30-ton dumpsters in blistering heat, an emotionally exhausted crew has been hard at work cleaning, sorting, building studios, and getting to know our new home.

With the completion of Phases 1 and 2 we have successfully resettled thirteen ARTFUL artists displaced at the end of 2024. NJM Ceramics Arts Studios is up and running once again with five original ARTFUL artists, and space for one more. We are ecstatic to welcome back so many of our original artists.

During Phase 3 we will be addressing a large attic area and studying the possibilities of holding open-studio hours and maintaining a locker system at a low cost. If you would like to join us, please fill out the interested artist form on our website. We will reach out to you when space becomes available.

Simultaneously, the ARTFUL Board has been strategizing for our first major capital campaign to raise funds for a fire suppression system and other building upgrades, while outlining a long-term plan and vision for the future. We have also created two new task forces and are welcoming help from the community.

The grounds task force is in charge of developing a plan for the green space surrounding the building. They hope to reclaim the monarch habitat established years ago, plant a dye garden, and bring the labyrinth at the corner of Edgehill Road and Euclid Heights Boulevard back to life. There are also a multitude of opportunities to pursue for public art on the grounds. The facilities task force is dedicated to addressing large building improvements one project at a time. We are seeking volunteers for these groups, including people with experience in landscape design, general contracting and facilities management, or fundraising.

Thank you to everyone who has sent us well wishes and helped us reach this point. We are so grateful for the support the arts community showed us throughout the last six years of tumult. We look forward to the day when we can resume our community events and continue all aspects of our mission.

If you have skills or energy to lend to either task force, please reach out to info@artfulcleveland.org.
