Art conservator Albert Albano has directed the Intermuseum Conservation Association for 17 years, and won the Rome Prize in 2011. That took him on sabbatical in Rome, for intense study of how works of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque era have weathered the ages–including the effects of centuries-old restoration efforts. He’s also been behind the ICA’s move to (and $3 million renovation of) its Ohio City location, a former Vitrolite glass showroom on Detroit Avenue. His wife Ann Craddock Albano has been executive director and chief curator of the Sculpture Center, in the re-energized Uptown section of Euclid Avenue in University Circle, since 2006. There she brings Cleveland a year-round schedule of sculptural works by emerging and accomplished Ohio sculptors. She’s recently returned from Bratislava, Slovakia, where the Sculpture Center represented the US in the exhibit,Sculpture and Object XVIII. Talk about power couples.
