Moments of Transformation Happening at The Morgan This Spring

Michaelle Marschall, Swift Dream, encaustic

Looking toward the spring of 2023, we will be exhibiting the next installment of our juried exhibition, entitled Moments of Transformation. Our 11th Annual Juried Exhibition includes artists from all across the country exhibiting works that are at least fifty percent paper, to keep our Morgan mission at the center! The invention of paper was a catalyst to the surge of education and development of art around the world. Here at the Morgan, we not only preserve the authentic techniques of papermaking, but celebrate the innovation artists are creating with paper as a medium. It continues to trigger inspiration, and impact almost every aspect of our lives. With our annual juried exhibition, we are able to continue this exploration and celebration of the paper arts! Our jurors are Alexandra Coon and J. Leigh Garcia. Alexandra Nicholis Coon, executive director for the Massillon Museum, holds a BA in art history from Kent State University and an MA in art history through the joint program at the Cleveland Museum of Art and Case Western Reserve University. J. Leigh Garcia received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and BFA from the University of North Texas. Our opening reception for our 11th Annual Juried Exhibition will begin at 5pm on Friday, March 24. The exhibition will be on view from March 24 through April 28.

Following our 11th Annual Juried Exhibition, we will be hosting our artists-in-residence once again for their own gallery exhibition. We aren’t going to reveal which artists are participating just yet, but they could include any of our 2022 cohort. These artists include Paula Damm, Tammy Wofsey, Erik Waterkotte, Alan Pocaro, Catherine Clements, Muriel Condon, Jazmine Catasus, Ana Fernández, Karen D. Beckwith, Nancy Halbrooks, Dana Potter, Loreto Greve, and Zelda Zinn.

Our winter workshop season began in January and included a vast array of virtual and in-person programming. As we conclude our winter season, make sure to snag your seats for the remaining workshops. Virtual offerings include Stenciled Image, Mechanical Spine Binding with Your Own Paper Paste, and Paper Casting. Available in-person workshops are Japanese Papermaking, Letterpress Possibilities: Pressure Printing and Moveable Type, Make Your Own Soft Cover Journal, and Exploring Encaustics. Make sure to follow us on social media to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, important deadlines, and new updates to our store. Check us out also on our website, morganconservatory.org.
