At Praxis, we love to collect sayings in our vernacular that relate to textiles and fiber art processes. A personal favorite is, “I love that with every fiber of my being.” We are thrilled to host local artist Kalin Shae in the Praxis Gallery this winter. In her statement she shares this sentiment of finding the connection between fiber and our personal lives:

“Descriptive words like string, thread, tapestry, weaving, warp, woven, loom, fabric, and weaver are often used in language as metaphors for regarding the meaning of life. These discoveries help me understand the cosmically-grand scope of this lineage and my current place in it.”

Katlin’s newest body of work will be on display in the Praxis Gallery through Wednesday, December 21.

Tragic Miracle is a woven reflection on the deep relationship between the artist and her late grandmother. Viewers will be transfixed by the colors, patterns, and texture in Shae’s weavings. Many works are woven digitally and include remnants, texts, and images from her grandmother’s collection. This personal and profound exhibition is not to be missed.
