Fall 2017 at Valley Art Center
Fin, Fur & Feather
Valley Art Center’s fall exhibit features creatures of the sea, the earth and the air. Artists were encouraged to interpret and depict any class of animal, domestic or wild, using their choice of media. Join VAC for an opening reception on Friday, September 1, from 6 to 8pm to see what artists from near and far have conjured out of fin, fur and feather. “The animal world provides a universal appeal as a source of inspiration for artists and fascination for those who admire art,” says Executive Director Mary Ann Breisch. Fin, Fur & Feather is on display until Wednesday, October 11. Free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm and Saturday, 10am to 2pm. The art on display was juried by Janice Matteucci, chief operating officer for Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
46th Annual Juried Art Exhibit
Artists living within a 250-mile radius of Chagrin Falls are again invited to submit artwork for consideration to this prestigious annual exhibit. The following media are accepted: oils, acrylics, watercolor, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media, collage, textiles, jewelry, glass, sculpture, ceramics, enamel and metalwork.
With a long tradition in the Chagrin Valley, this show enjoys continued support from our community and artists. Historically the center has received approximately 300 entries, including 2-D and 3-D works. The entries are juried to approximately 100 pieces. “This is a great opportunity to showcase northeast Ohio artists whose work will be judged by locally known, professional artists,” says Gallery Manager Deb Pinter. Last year’s winners represented traditional mediums such as oil, charcoal, intaglio and ceramics as well as fiber, assemblage, and photography—just to name a few!
Call to entry opens September 1. Deliver art for jurying October 19 through 21. See delivery times and instructions at valleyartcenter.org/annual-juried-cte.html. Work will be judged on quality, originality, concept, design and technique to receive over $1,000 in cash awards for Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place and several community-sponsored awards including the Hardy Watercolor Award and the Phyllis Lloyd Memorial Award.
The reception takes place Friday, November 3, from 6 to 8pm with awards presented at 7pm. VAC openings are free and open to the public. This show runs through December 13. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm and Saturday, 10am to 2pm.
