Sarah Raban

My work is most often born out of materials that I have on hand (not a problem, I have a whole lot of materials on hand). The materials themselves suggest an image or an idea initially, and this grows and changes through the interaction, and depends on what I come in contact with during the process. These pieces are my expression of essential curiosity about how the world works. I use the creative process to communicate with the materials I use, and my worldview evolves through this dialogue. The world I know through art is a beautiful place, intricate and absurd, with sensual curves and delicate machinery capable of anything. These are my love notes. Sometimes to subjects not known or understood even after completion. To the feel of the material. To the tools in my hand. These end in question marks, not periods, and usually with a smile, and/or a wink. These are my conversations with the world, and I invite you to join.
