Stroll the campus this September with John Paul Peralta in “The Case for Public Sculpture, an in-depth look at CWRU’s outdoor sculpture.”

Two weekends: Sunday, September 17, 2017 (5 – 6:30 p.m.) & Sunday, September 24, 2017 (5 – 6:30 p.m.)

The Sculpture Center, an arts institution dedicated to advancing the careers of emerging sculptors of Ohio and its greater region and the preservation of Ohio outdoor public sculpture, has organized and is hosting a walking tour of the Putnam Collection Sculptures around the CWRU (Case Western Reserve University) campus.

The tour begins at The Sculpture Center founder David E. Davis’ large abstract sculpture “Start” (located on Juniper Road in the North Residential Village of CWRU) and winds along Juniper Road, past the CWRU School of Law, across Bellflower, toward the Kelvin Smith Library oval, and across Adelbert Road to conclude at the Veale Athletic Center.

John Paul “J.P.” PeraltaOOSI (Ohio Outdoor Sculpture Inventory) summer ARTS Intern at The Sculpture Center and CWRU B.A. Candidate ‘19 in Art History, Theatre, and French, will lead a detailed narrative tour of the ubiquitous and often overlooked campus sculptures by artists such as Phillip Johnson, Keith Haring, Tony Smith, and Ronald Bladen, and William McVey. In addition to personalizing each sculpture and explaining its significance to the site, John Paul will also discuss some of the conservation issues that public art faces today.

“The Case for Public Sculpture, an in-depth look at CWRU’s outdoor sculpture” walking cultural tour across CWRU is free and open to the public. RSVP’s are appreciated and can be sent directly by e-mailing John Paul at jp@sculpturecenter.org with the number of people and the specific date of attendance (Sunday, Sept. 17 or Sunday, Sept. 24). Please call The Sculpture Center at 216-229-6527 with other questions.
