Still Point Gallery is delighted to present Laurel Hecht, another talented Cleveland artist who, having returned to her hometown several years ago, will send her roots even deeper as she holds her first solo show, Friday, July 15th from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m at the Gallery.

Laurel Hecht’s paintings are brilliantly hued, fluid and ethereal, transforming into the ecosystems of flowers, ponds, trees and their inhabitants. Two of her ongoing series, “The Quiet Ones” and “Safe Places” will be featured along with an array of other works, all original acrylics on canvas or board.

That an NBA championship might find relevance in the beautiful floral and arboreal renderings of an artist is both fitting and prophetic, especially in the context of Laurel’s concluding statement in anticipation of her upcoming exhibit (written the first of May, six weeks before the Cav’s title):

“Moving back to Cleveland has also influenced this body of work.  Clevelanders are a tough bunch. We have to be. Every Clevelander knows the rap about leaving industries, burning rivers, and losing teams. But never count us out. We’re kind of like multiflora rose or pachysandra or dandelions for that matter. Just when you think you’ve beaten us down to the point of no return, look out. Here we come again.”

We hope you will join us to celebrate and savor Laurel’s show July 15th.  We will provide hors d’oeuvres and beverages for Friday’s opening reception.
