Wondering how to get started on your professional art career? Looking for more places to show your work? Wanting more recognition and outside reaction to your art work? Suspecting you’ve reached a plateau and need to find the next steps to reach higher? Seeking like-minded people to discuss your art work? A significant number of Cleveland artists feel they are excluded from the established art scene. Negotiating the Art World’s three round-tables and three photography workshops offer practical information to all artists wanting to increase their presence, exhibition opportunities, and competences. The Sculpture Center specializes in promoting and mentoring early career artists.
For each round-table, four speakers (artists and arts community leaders) present some of the challenges confronting a professional artist and solutions to tackle them. The artists talk about how they personally found success in navigating the paths they took in their professional careers. The arts community leaders discuss key logistics like exhibition, studio, and residency opportunities in Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, and Pittsburgh, and how to create branding and successful application materials. Each round table covers similar material with different speakers, thus presenting a unique learning experience each time. Come to one or come to them all.
Presenters at Larchmere Arts:
Vince Robinson – photographer and owner of Larchmere Arts
Jova Lynne – transdiciplinary artist and Fellow at MOCAD (Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit)
Anna Arnold – painter, muralist, and Gallery Director of the Wasmer Gallery at Ursuline College
We extend a special welcome to artists from African American, Latinx, Asian, immigrant, LGBTQ, and other minority communities and to artists who are developing their professional careers without prior college level training in art. Come with questions and leave with answers! Come to one or come to them all. The next round-table is June 12 at Charmaine Spencer’s studio at 78th St. Studios.
Let us know if you are coming so that we’ll have enough handouts and refreshments for everyone. Email: aalbano at sculpturecenter.org, or phone Ann Albano at 216-229-6527
