Framed Gallery Presents Austin, Olfus, and Gibson in Fall shows

Nathaniel F. Austin

Framed Gallery on Waterloo presents two new shows this fall, first introducing Cleveland artist Nathaniel F. Austin, and then showing new works of two artists familiar to the gallery’s regulars—Hampton Olfus and Michael Gibson.

Nathaniel F. Austin, Opening October 6

As Nathaniel F. Austin says, “An Artist is a problem solver for an equation that has no definite solution.”

Austin’s artistic pursuit began early, doodling on church fans and scrap paper during Sunday services when he was a child. He attended the Cleveland School of the Arts and University of Toledo. His work, he says, is about sharing the realities of the African American experience. “Behind the eyes of a melanated people [lay] the love, joys, sorrows and pains that they (we) commonly inherit,” Austin writes.

Hampton Olfus and Michael Gibson, Opening November 3

Hampton Olfus and Michael Gibson are both familiar to Framed Gallery patrons. Washington, DC, native Olfus has exhibited his “eclectic aesthetic” nationally and internationally. Born in Ontario, Canada, and trained at Sheridan College in Toronto, Gibson “pushes the limits of realism in graphite” drawings.
