50th Annual Student Show and Merit Scholar Exhibition, at CSU
Annual juried student art shows are an important standard for academic art galleries. Cleveland State University students get real life experiences and a firsthand look into the professional world of galleries and art. For many, this is the first time their work is critiqued by outside judges. They experience the joy of acceptance, as well as the sting of rejection. Both are extremely valuable life lessons that motivate and inspire.
This juried exhibition features the work of CSU students. Items on display include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, video, animation, and sculpture. Many of the works are for sale. Judges again have historically-large cash prizes to award thanks to our generous donors.
The Merit Scholar Exhibition in the North Gallery features work by recipients of the CSU Art Department Merit Scholarships. This year’s scholars are Evan Elchert, Aurora Laux, Stephanie Lopez and Jurnee Weeams. These talented merit scholars are fulfilling a scholarship requirement by presenting these four exhibitions.
To commemorate the fiftieth year of CSU student shows, we are planning a celebration of Gallery milestones and will recognize the thirty years of dedicated service from former director Robert Thürmer.
Gallery viewing hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5:00pm. The Galleries are closed on Sunday, Monday and all CSU holidays.
