Art House: Fall Recap, Winter Fresh

Grupo Azteca Guadalupana dancers at Art House’s Big Read Kick-Off Event on September 12, 2021.

Summer at Art House: Creative Fusion artist Ana Quiroz worked with Thomas Jefferson International students and the Gum-Dip Theater group to create Memory Atlases. She presented at the Sister Cities Global Conference. Hector Castellanos Lara resumed his Gateway monument project in late fall.

September: Art House began a year of NEA Big Read programming in schools, libraries, and other locations. The weather was beautiful for the kick-off event. Honey Hut donated ice cream, the Comité Mexicano provided tacos, Arts in Health brought their yard signs, readers from numerous organizations volunteered, children helped create a small mural for the front of our building, and Grupo Azteca Guadalupana performed wonderful dances.

We contracted artists for a full slate of programming in schools and with new partners. Students told their stories—in paint, stop-motion animation, prints, and more.

Winter: Art House will host in-person, all-ages events that are open to everyone. These include a Community Culture Night scheduled for January and Saturday Family Days from November through February. See below for more details.

Looking ahead to March: A Big Read event held in partnership with Young Latino Network to celebrate International Women’s Day is scheduled from 5:30pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, March 8.

And we will enjoy the ABC Chili Cook-Off!
