As residents of Northeast Ohio, we are all familiar with the reemergence that occurs in this area when winter finally stops torturing us. This year the reemergence is even more anticipated and exciting than ever. At BAYarts, we will be packing our summer full of events and opportunities to enjoy our grounds with shopping, art, and music in a safe environment close to nature.

We open our summer gallery season with James March in his solo exhibition Cosmic Shift. The work in this show is a combination of abstract expressionism and geometric abstraction with the techniques of op art. Cosmic Shift will be on display from June 11 through August 6 in our Sullivan Family Gallery. There will be a reception for this show on Friday, June 18 from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Tickets for the opening will be available on Eventbrite the first week of June.

Davon Brantley’s solo exhibition We Not Linkin’ will open in the Sullivan Family Gallery with a reception on Friday, August 13 and will run through September 17. According to Brantley, the show utilizes the dark fantasies directed towards people of color, and flips these scenarios in a way that consecrates rather than demonizes. Through self-portraiture, Brantley guides the audience through his own narratives involving experiences of colorism and racial stereotyping and meditations on death, life, sexuality, and masculinity.

There will be many opportunities to experience the lush grounds of BAYarts throughout this summer. Our weekly Thursday Market will feature local vendors with a variety of art, produce, and food offerings. The Market will start on June 9 and will take place from 4:00 to 7:00pm every Thursday through September 9. Our Summer Concert Series will kick off on Sunday, June 20 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Additional concerts are scheduled for the following Sundays: June 27, July 11, 18, and 25, and August 1, 8, and 15. New to BAYarts this year will be Groundworks Dance Theater on July 15 and 16 and the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival on July 25. We will round out our summer with the Annual Moondance Benefit on Saturday, September 11. Details regarding all of these events and how you can attend them will be available at BAYarts.net.
