Bonfoey and Diversity

Kirsten Bowen, Love, Love, Love, 2019

Over the years, we have represented the works of artists from many ethnicities and orientations. Our goal is to present fine quality work regardless of an artist’s background or professional training. We review the work of many artists throughout the year looking to maintain this quality level. However, this benchmark does present an encumbrance to our ability to always maintain a diverse stable. Looking to the future, we will continue to reach out to artists of all backgrounds to enlarge and grow our stable.

We seek to be community minded by hosting exhibits and events at the gallery that benefit various charitable causes and organizations.

Last year we were thrilled to have the opportunity to exhibit the powerful works of Darius Steward and to host his three gallery talks. Beyond the show and talks, we were able to place his works in important collections throughout the city. We hope this has helped to highlight this talented artist’s work for a national audience.

Also, our spring show event in March of 2019 benefitted and raised funds to support the YWCA’s Norma Herr Women’s Center in downtown Cleveland. The proceeds were used to continue their mission of advancing social and economic mobility to disadvantaged women.

Bonfoey hosted the ArtHeals benefit for Cleveland Catholic Charities and the Bishop Cosgrove Center. Clients of the Cosgrove Center were instructed in painting and drawing by Guy-Vincent Ricketti, a professional artist. Their works were hung at the gallery and offered for sale during our opening. All proceeds benefitted the Cosgrove Center and the adult students of the ArtHeals program.

As of July, we are uncertain of our fall schedule. The corona virus pandemic and ten-week closure continue to impact our business. We reopened in June and are hoping to reconnect with our clients, artists and supporters. Unfortunately, as of today, groups of ten or larger are forbidden, so large gallery openings will not be happening anytime soon. We are pivoting towards more virtual opportunities through our website and looking at smaller opening events, as we find new ways to connect and experience the wonder of art.
