Painters Kathy Skerritt and Rita DiCello, ceramic artists Diane Pinchot and Bob Marrone, photographer Al Fuchs, mixed-media artist Susan Ross and assemblage artist Louis Ross, explore the theme of The Elemental Imagination through intuitive and narrative-based artistic responses to the natural world and our current human presence or possible future absence in it.

Concerned with the acceleration of climate and biodiversity breakdown, the seven Artists of ArtiCle focus on neglect, decay, and transformation of our environment to make the process visible. Their differing approaches to this theme present thought-provoking ideas about the world we inhabit.

While one might expect that such visual statements would be bold calls for action, the Artists of ArtiCle explore subtle images and objects of human de-construction and the supernatural regeneration of our planet. The viewer is confronted to consider their place in the larger whole of which they are an active part. Elements of clay, paint, inks and found objects are fashioned to remind us we live in the realm of a powerful reality larger in scale and more mysterious than any we can imagine.

Ceramic artists Diane Pinchot and Robert Marrone fashion earth, fire and water into three-dimensional form. Photographer Al Fuchs captures the fleeting reality of light we mostly miss. Artist/writer Kathy Skerritt combines natural elements and energies with the interaction of chance and thought. Painter and art historian Rita DiCello explores the natural spectrum of color and human emotion. Art educator Susan Ross reminds us of the fresh vision and magical world we held as children. Assemblage artist Louis Ross arranges cast-away objects and images into wordless prose.

The Elemental Imagination opens at ArtiCle/Art In Cleveland Gallery and Studios on Friday, June 7, and continues through the month to the Waterloo Arts Fest on Saturday, June 29.
