Senior to Senior Art and More at Valley Art Center

Sharing the Benefits of Art in Senior to Senior Outreach

Over the past year, Valley Art Center has been bringing the joy of artmaking to senior citizens who may otherwise not be able to experience it. Every week, residents at Hamlet Village and Arden Courts can look forward to a class, free of charge, led by highly talented Valley Art Center staff members Darlene Jackson and Victoria Wagner. Lessons are tailored especially for the needs of the elderly and senior residents, as accommodations are made for vision, hearing, and fine motor challenges. Residents, staff, and instructors have seen the growth of fellow residents as a result of this program. Besides being fun and good for fine motor skill development and critical thinking skills, several residents who are primarily nonverbal have begun to talk about their work. Funding for this program is made possible by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and from private donations. To see how you can be involved, please contact VAC director Mary Ann Breisch at 440.247.7507.

Drawn to the Valley in Chagrin Falls

A highly talented group of dedicated artists in Chagrin Falls and surrounding communities have been drawn to the Valley, to draw. Every Tuesday evening, they gather in Valley Art Center’s classroom to have a fun, collegial evening of life drawing, and pool together to hire models. To keep the integrity of the gathering, artists agree to adhere to specific guidelines to promote light socializing while keeping art the main focus in the atmosphere. Valley Art Center is excited to host such a talented group!
