Gray Haus Curates Resident Artists at The 9

Metropolitan Hotel at the 9 is providing unique opportunities for artists. The second floor public space is devoted to a gallery featuring the work of Northeast Ohio artists. They have a studio space devoted to an Artist in Residence. The Artist in Residence is designed to provide an interaction between hotel guests and visitors and the artist to engage in a conversation about the artwork, provide a working space for the artist and enable a retail outlet for the artwork. Both spaces will feature new artists on a tri-annual basis.

Beginning in October 2014, Michelle Murphy is the Artist in Residence. She has been creating a video project, titled Get Happy. Murphy created a laboratory of gestures, practices and imagery investigating the idea and products of happiness. Herb Ascherman’s photographs of Tom and Susanne Evert Dance are paired with Jessica Newell’s luscious abstracted landscapes. These artists will be featured through January 31.
