The Art of Drawing

This Fall Thomas French Fine Art’s online exhibition will showcase The Art of Drawing. Honoring the traditions of draughtsmanship over the last five centuries, The Art of Drawing will include works by Old Master, European, Modernist, Contemporary, and Ohio artists.

The oldest work in the exhibition will be Luca Cambiaso’s Woman with Four Children from the mid-1560s, which scholars have suggested is a study executed in preparation for the artist’s “Return of Ulysses” fresco in Genoa’s Palazzo Grimaldi della Meridiana.

Luca Cambiaso, Woman with Four Children, Pen and brown ink on antique cream laid paper.

William Sommer, Wired Haired Girl and Cat, Pen and ink with watercolor.

More modern works in the exhibition will include drawings by Lynn Chadwick, Lyonel Feininger and local Ohio artist William Sommer. Sommer’s Wire Haired Girl and Cat is particularly indicative of the artist’s quirky aesthetic and unique regional cubist mannerism.

Cumulatively, the drawings featured offer insight into a variety of artistic processes. Their prices range from $200 to $15,000.
