Heights Arts: Celebrating 25 Years of Community Engagement

Heights Arts will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in the upcoming year, reflecting on a quarter-century of artistic contributions to the community. This multi-disciplinary arts organization has engaged the public through various forms of art, including public installations, gallery exhibitions, music performances, and poetry programming. Its mission is to “celebrate the region’s literary, musical, and visual artists.”
Heights Arts hosts Ohio’s longest-running poet laureateship and operates a store featuring local arts and crafts. It also offers arts internships for students and regularly showcases public art installations throughout Cleveland Heights, fostering a love for diverse artistic expressions.

As part of its anniversary celebration, Heights Arts will spotlight past artworks and the significant impact they have made on individuals and the wider region. Exhibitions Coordinator Heather Patterson emphasizes that “Heights Arts is a testament to the transformative power of creativity. This anniversary is not just a celebration of our past but a launch pad for the future, where art continues to inspire and connect our community.”

Heights Arts will host its 23rd annual Holiday Store, transforming its space into a welcoming venue for shoppers. Open with extended hours through December 30, the store will feature unique handmade gifts—created by over 100 local artists—including candles, decorative boxes, jewelry, and various artworks.
The biennial Emergent exhibition highlights Heights Arts’ commitment to emerging artists, having showcased fifty individuals since 2015, many of whom gained their first exposure to a wider audience. The upcoming 5 x 5 exhibition, running from January 10 to March 9, 2025, will feature five artists from previous Emergent shows, each presenting five new works that showcase their growth.

Heights Arts will also be exploring the rich history of artistic movements in Northeastern Ohio in another new exhibition. Through discussions with artists and educational institutions, it aims to highlight the vibrant visual arts community in the region. Exhibitions Community Team leader Greg Donley asks, “is there a distinct regional school today, beyond Cleveland? What themes and media define it? If your work addresses these questions, we invite submissions for this exciting exhibition.” Works will be on display from March 14 to May 11, 2025.

Join Heights Arts in celebrating 25 years of artistic engagement and community connection as it continues to inspire and elevate the local arts scene.
