Thaw Out at The Galleries at CSU
Spring is in swing with community-based displays, student shows and the work of nationally-acclaimed artists at The Galleries at CSU. Cleveland State University’s campus art gallery, located at 1307 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland, features four exhibitions throughout spring of 2014.
43rd Annual Student Show and Merit Exhibitions
The season begins March 28 with CSU’s 43rd Annual Student Show and Merit Exhibitions.Housed in the venue’s Center and South Galleries, the student show features CSU student artwork in a range of styles, shapes and colors. Jurors to be selected by the Student Organization of Fine Art (SOFA). School pride beams in the North Gallery as well, where Merit Exhibitions showcases works by recipients of Cleveland State Art Department Merit Scholarships. A grand opening reception for both shows is planned for 5-8 p.m. on March 28.
Graphic Advocacy: International Posters for a Digital Age 2001-2012, and
2014 Cleveland Clinic Explorers Exhibition
The season continues with a second set of displays from May 16 to June 21: Graphic Advocacy: International Posters for a Digital Age 2001-2012, and 2014 Cleveland Clinic Explorers Exhibition.
Graphic Advocacy, in the venue’s North and Center Galleries, boasts a collection of socially-responsible poster art curated by Elizabeth Resnick, professor and department chair, Graphic Design, Massachusetts College of Art And Design. The exhibit examines the poster’s role beyond the limitations of the printed surface, emphasizing its continued relevance and evolution into a modern tool for support and protest.
The 2014 Cleveland Clinic Explorers Exhibition featuring selected works of Northeast Ohio students in grades K-8, offers reflection in the studies of health and wellness. The students, who earlier this year attended presentations dealing with topics such as bullying, diabetes, asthma, exercise, and nutrition, designed the works to share their understandings with the world.
