Neighborhoods and International Perspectives at Harris Stanton

Opening our fall season at the Harris Stanton Gallery in Cleveland is the group show Cleveland Neighborhoods on August 28. This exhibition will feature four talented local artists: Tom Roese, Christine Ries, Glen Ratusnik, and Diane Pribojan. Each approaches the Cleveland Neighborhood concept with surprisingly different viewpoints. Roese’s focus will primarily be on the homes and buildings of the Tremont neighborhood. He plays with the sense of space and perspective, while keeping the architecture decidedly recognizable. His urban residences directly contrast to the work of Roese’s former student, Glen Ratusnik, who is focusing on a series of imagery of Wendy Park, a small Metropark reservation on Lake Erie. His landscapes are soft and mist-enshrouded, and give just a hint of human impact on the ethereal nature scenes. Christine Ries’s oil paintings give much more of a focus to human interaction with their surroundings, incorporating portraiture into her cityscapes. Her bright works are in a neo-fauvist style. Typically working with the same energetic hues, Diane Pribojan moves her subject matter to the suburbs, depicting the cottages, colonials and bungalows that make up the surrounding Cleveland neighborhoods. She flattens her images, only hinting to three dimensionality.

In Akron, the first event of the fall will be our 22nd annual Art Auction benefitting the Akron Art Museum. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Museum to use as they see fit. Over 80 works by international and regional fine artists and craftspeople will be available for bidding at a discounted starting price. The work will be on display at the gallery starting Friday, September 18. Bidding will continue for a week and culminate with a vodka tasting party Friday September 25, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. The general public is invited to enjoy the fun, festivities and bidding for a $10.00 admission charge which is fully donated to the Museum.

For the second year in a row our Cleveland Gallery will present our International Exhibition. This exciting show will feature artwork from all over the world, unavailable at any other regional gallery. Gallery favorites such as Yuji Hiratsuka, Alexander Befelein, and Miguel Olivares will have new works on view. Akron will finish the fall season with a local focused exhibition of printmakers all working in the Northeast Ohio region.

We are excited to present our fall exhibition schedule to Northeast Ohio as it encompasses three components that as a gallery we are steadfastly committed to; exhibiting the finest regional art, bringing the global art market to this region, and supporting the world class non-profit art institutions right here in our backyard.
