And Then There Is Life, at La Cosecha

La Cosecha Galeria, after the clean-up

Being an artist/entrepreneur takes much sacrifice and patience. Many times your mind wanders to the perspective of others: staff, artists, colleagues, and the community we reflect and serve. And then life makes things complicated, bringing personal struggles that feed our muse to absorb its blows. When I decided to reformat art shows, not only to survive a pandemic but to continue expanding with a new business model, in the background story, I lost my father in February 2021 prior to our spring reopening. In December 2021, history was made, totaling 101 pieces sold in since our doors opened. Time was a blur with cold reality.

And to begin 2022, we had a successful show in February, again selling artwork at an optimistic pace; unfortunately, we have been closed more often since the January snowstorms. The rooftop was strained, our ceiling began to leak daily, and pieces of it started falling. These struggles fell to a distant noise with family news of the serious decline of our mother’s health. Again, life makes what is important apparent and vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

Whether the goal is to be a voice of the underserved artists or the tool of economic development, we are now undergoing repairs with plans to reopen June 2022. We’ll soldier on, because life continues, with no plans but to exist, because through art I survive mentally.

Last Saturday Every Month

Our Open Mic Night “Higher Verse”, featuring amazingly talented artists, is held on last Saturday every month. Signup begins at 6 pm, and the show starts at 7 pm. Open call: musicians, poets, magicians, and comics—everybody welcomed! An audience vote wins the prize. Higher Verse is hosted by Ju-Marri Sims, AKA Kaesevyn, a Cleveland native who’s been hard at work for the last decade conjuring up music for the minds and souls of listeners young and old.
