New Beginnings Together, at Art House

Students weaving with post-consumer plastic, at Rhodes School of Environmental Studies with Art House teaching artist Ron Shelton.

Each school year offers a fresh start. For artists, a new beginning can mean new ideas, materials, and practices as they encounter a blank canvas or a bundle of cardboard and plastic. Last Fall, Art House Teaching Artists embraced this new school year with freshness, and their collaborative artworks showcase this energy.

Jo Lefebvre introduced International Newcomers Academy students to ceramic tile art and glazes. Together they created a mural of hands, to be displayed in their school.

Chi-Irena Wong taught stop motion animation with the use of a free smart phone app to 7th and 8th graders at Denison Elementary. Together they explored how to make background scenes and clay characters.

Ron Shelton led weaving projects at Rhodes School of Environmental Studies and shared the importance of environmental stewardship by reusing plastic bags.

From empty tiles to discarded plastic shopping bags, art began again in-person this fall! We plan to celebrate the collaborative artworks in-person this May at the Urban Bright Exhibition hosted at Art House, Inc.
